The Star serves hot meals for Sydneysiders for OzHarvest’s Think. Eat. Save campaign
The Star Sydney is proud to announce it is a food partner for Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest, and will serve thousands of members of the public a free hot meal in Martin Place on Monday, 25 July as part of the 2016 Think. Eat. Save campaign.
The national campaign, led by OzHarvest in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), aims to raise awareness of global food loss and waste reduction by showcasing some of the nation’s top chefs, politicians and celebrities united to take a stance against food waste.
The Star will host two stalls at Sydney’s Martin Place event from 11:30am to 2:30pm and the public are invited to enjoy a delicious, hearty meal of Milli Julli Sabji ‘everything in the pot’ vegetable curry served with Bhatura flatbread or rescued chicken pie with tomato relish.
Up to 1,500 meals will be prepared by The Star’s award-winning team of chefs including Executive Chef, Uday Huja; Executive Sous Chef, Jason Alcock; Osteria Balla Manfredi Restaurant Executive Chef, Gabriele Taddeucci; and Vincent Liew, Chef De Cuisine of the Sovereign Room along with a team of 15 volunteers from The Star’s culinary, banquet and events teams.
All dishes will be made from surplus produce that would have otherwise been destined for landfill.
The Star General Manager of Food and Beverage, Andy North said: “The Star is very proud to support this cause and support OzHarvest in its mission to raise awareness on how food sustainability and food security can be addressed from a community level.”
“We completely support this notion at The Star and our team of chefs are committed to food waste reduction practices across the business.”
The Think. Eat. Save Sydney event will take place in Martin Place, Sydney CBD from 11:30am to 2:30pm on Monday, 25 July. To register your attendance and learn more about the Think. Save. Eat campaign, please visit www.ozharvest.org/events/think-eat-save-2016.
