Sydney Airport commences phase three of T1 improvements program
- Phase three of Sydney Airport’s T1 transformation has commenced
- Key passenger benefits include wider pathways to improve passenger flows, shorter walking distances to gates, greater lines of sight, clear signage and more seating closer to boarding gates
- First phase of Heinemann’s largest duty free store at T1 to open
Sydney Airport has commenced phase three of the T1 improvements program, which is on track for completion in mid-2016 and is planned to deliver a world-class airport experience for passengers, visitors and staff.
The enhanced airport experience within T1 will showcase wider pathways for improved passenger flows, more direct paths to aircraft gates, increased seating closer to gates and clearer signage to better assist passenger direction inside the terminal.
A brand new retail offer at T1 will provide travellers with a wider selection of compelling first-to-airport brands, new food and dining concepts, and improved terminal ambience.
“Enhancing the passenger experience within the T1 International terminal is a key focus for Sydney Airport,” Sydney Airport managing director and chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.
“We’re looking forward to delivering a world-class airport terminal for everyone to enjoy when arriving, visiting or departing Sydney.”
The works in phase three include:
- The first stage opening of Heinemann’s T1 Departures duty free store beyond passport control and security, which on completion will be the largest airport duty free store in the world;
- The opening of Heinemann’s Arrivals B duty free store;
- A straight path opening through the main duty free store from the screening area to gate lounges, ensuring airlines and passengers have a direct path to gates; and
- The beginning of exterior work to the terminal to raise the height of the roof, allowing more natural light and a clearer view of the city skyline.
During the improvements there will be a slight reduction in the food and beverage offering in T1 Departures beyond customs, however four temporary food carts will be made available and passengers will still be able to access a great range of food and beverage options in the newly refurbished casual dining precinct before going through customs. This includes new outlets Roll’d, Nando’s, Grand Cru, Hokka Hokka, Soul Origin, Oliver Brown and Mach2, providing choice and value, catering to all budgets and tastes.
The airport recommends passengers allow plenty of time to get through passport control and security, ensuring they can easily make their way to the gate on time.
